NIMBY Lawsuit Cause Developer To Shrink Downtown Redwood City Condo Project
An approved condo project in downtown Redwood City has been shrunk by the developer from 91 to 68 units in response to a lawsuit filed by aggrieved community members.
The legal action represents the first of its kind in the city, but is part of the larger battle that has pitted slow-growth activists against developers and city officials across the Bay Area.
As the Bay Area struggles with a shortage of hundreds of thousands of residential units, pro-housing activists often point to the difficulty of getting projects approved. Part of that struggle includes hundreds of projects throughout the Bay Area that are built at much lower densities than they could be, because they can’t get approved at higher densities or because those bigger projects are challenged through the courts.
